I’m suspecting the entire family could have used some serious psychological counseling, oh, years ago.

If this was shizophrenia, it can come out of nowhere, skip generations, etc. The parents might be pretty normal. Or they could be crazypants.

In either case, you can bet they are extremely freaked out and frightened right now.
