Immigration reform was one of the few things about GW Bush I could support, but his own party would not back him on it
The so-called Gang of Eight (which included Rubio) put forth the immigration bill.
It was John Tanton’s racist groups such as Numbers USA and FAIR which bombarded senators with racist calls about the bill.
Rubio pulled it, concerned it would cost him his job (conservatism must conserve its power).
