re: #1161 Fluffy Bunny

We started feeding three stray kitties last year, I love them but can’t have one due to hubby and son’s allergies. We built a kitty condo and buy them special food and treats. The problem is word has gotten out in stray-kitty land that our house is THE place to congregate. We have seen a total of 8 furry friends lounging by the pool and eating the kitty food. I don’t want them euthanized, which is what the SPCA and animal control will do if they are trapped and brought in because they are considered feral cats. The original three will allow me to get about a foot or so away from them, the others run like the wind if you get within 10 feet of them. I don’t want to see them euthanized but I also do not want a stray cat population explosion.

Suggestions from the “cat-loving” Lizards would be appreciated.

When you have one cat, he/she puts up a neon sign on your house, that says “STRAY CATS EAT FREE”.

Check your areas - there may be organizations that “rescue” cats; one organization here will spay or neuter stray cats then release them back into the same area they were found, but you have to trap and bring the cat to them. Not the best solution, but …bottom line is that a lot of people just don’t like cats and they are hard to find a home for.

Animals in the wild live a difficult life, and will often die a violent or difficult and painful death, through starvation, idiots targeting them with their cars, other animals, etc. I know you don’t like the thought of sending them somewhere where they will be euthanized, but in some cases there just isn’t a better solution.
