My wife got a scam phone call yesterday on her cell phone from someone claiming they are from Microsoft and told her he was calling because she had a virus on her computer. She said she wasn’t home and he said he would call her on Saturday. The scary thing is he knew her name.

I got one of those about a year and a half or so back. The guy got done with his ‘you got a virus’ spiel, and I asked him if they’d checked the beta API drivers. He wibbled, repeated a thing about a virus.

“Hey buddy, let me give you some advice. The next time you try to scam someone about computer issues, make sure that you’re not calling a software engineer.”

And the line goes dead…
