re: #110 Shiplord Kirel

I once flew completely across the Pacific, Tokyo to San Francisco, in a DC-6. These planes were designed to fly on any two of their four engines, and for good reason. The R-2800 radial (for 2800 cubic inches) had 18 cylinders, 36 spark plugs, and a mass of reciprocating parts all stressed within an inch of their lives to produce 2400 horsepower, a remarkably high specific output for a very large engine even today The upshot was that we changed one of them on Wake Island and another in Hawaii, finally reaching the west coast after 29 hours.

Cooorimie! Best I did in a 6 was East to West coast in the 40s.

You have obvious profound knowledge of the aircraft industry (or the DC6 specifically) … care to elaborate?
