As Austin Blue and I discussed last week, Lubbock is headed for a catastrophic water shortage. In particular, climate change denial is deeply embedded in the local socio-political structure, with the result that city produced projections of surface water availability take no account of severe long term drought and are therefore in error by decades. This will put an unbearable strain on subsurface reserves. The latter are almost depleted now. In 50 years there won’t be anything left of Lubbock but sand dunes with a few suitable clearings for the Buddy Holly shrines.
