re: #5 lawhawk

You would think that there would be a college course (or some kind of class) for politicians (and wannabe politicians) on how to deal with scandals.

This is PR 101.

You will be taught how to successfully manage and get ahead of potential scandals and skeletons in your closet.

Yet it seems that no one knows when and how to call in the PR guys (or take their advice) to quit while they’re behind. Get ahead of the story by putting out the details instead of dripping it out and giving a scandal legs by denying, denying, denying, and then starting to admit bits and pieces, which only encourages more info to come out later.

Had Cain come out and admitted that there was something, that it happened, that a payment was made but no admission of wrongdoing - that this was a business decision on cost-benefit, it might have stayed in the news for a day or two and that’s it. Now? It’s going to be on the news cycle for far longer - and other scandals will only add to the malaise.

I’ve got no proof to back it up, but I’m getting the feeling that Cain thinks he knows better than his staff, and has told them ‘I’ve got this.’

Either that, or he doesn’t have anyone with any PR experience, or the ones he does have are under directions to ‘speak only when spoken to.’

The guy’s obviously not lacking in the ego department, and that might be Problem #1 right there.
