Hereâs the thing⌠heâs not exactly wrong about this. Where he fucks up is the conclusion he draws from it. Itâs the same thing that happens with a lot of history - whatever happened led to these specific outcomes, so it couldnât really have been that bad. Itâs an argument you hear regarding the Trans-Atlantic Slave Trade; itâs probably been made with respect to the Holocaust and the establishment of Israel.
Yet it (rather intentionally) misses the point that it wasnât really ârightâ to begin with. It also ignores the possibility that the world could be better if those things didnât happen. You can (and should be able to) recognize that people did some fucked up things in the past, and while it may have led to where we are, we have the ability to make the world a better place by making better choices on how we treat others. You donât even have to accept moral responsibility for the actions of your ancestors!
its the same argument as âwhat if man and woman had sex one hour before / afterâ, just writ stupid
and contrary to paul ryanâs opinion, how âitâ was conceived is relevant
like it, donât like it; i donât care:
- a 2 day zygote is not a one-week-from-normal-nine-month-delivery-fetus
- the mother has rights of her own, and they are not subordinate to anything along that time line
