Totally agree….. in addition, I think he may be afraid of what will happen if one of the Gitmo prisoners is brought to trial in the U.S., set free for lack of sufficient admissable evidence, and goes on to commit some crime or terrorist act. on U.S. soil.

That would be politically damning for him.
