The other thing that bothers me about the coverage of this outrage, beyond the ‘We’ll never know what motivated him’, is the facile characterization of him as ‘evil’. ‘Pure evil!’ ‘Inhuman!’

These are ways of separating him from US, so that we don’t have to recognize just how human his actions are. Look at our history - is there anything in our history that would convince you that these acts are anything but human?

And calling them ‘Evil’ and invoking the Devil as an explanation? Please. We don’t need an external bad guy. There’s plenty of that right in our own character.
