1. cops can lie to you
2. cops are not required to be truthful when ‘advising’ you what laws are and your rights
3. miranda excepted (sometimes)

rule 1: say nothing, admit to nothing, agree to nothing*.
rule 2: ask am i under arrest?
if yes, shut up and ask for a lawyer now. don’t wait.
if not, ask if you can leave.
if they say no, then act as if you are under arrest.

* know your rights in the state you’re driving in - like if you have to submit to a breathalyzer
