TL;DR: Pismo Beach clams are endangered. They require a state license to collect.

The judge reduced her fine to $100. She got a tattoo of a clam as a reminder of her day with her children at Pismo Beach. She says she wished the city or state had signage stating what’s legal to collect on the beach.

She has a point. A few signs would be very useful as I am sure they were not the only people out collecting shells.
