There’s nothing wrong with positions or associations changing over time, especially when those changes come about because of research, reflection, betrayals, etc.

I’ve been betrayed by friends in the past- I don’t hang out with them anymore, nor would I associate with them. I’ve changed political affiliations because after reflecting and researching I realized I wasn’t really a democrat.

I think it’s called evolution. People can and do change their minds on subjects. To try to smear someone for a position they no longer hold, that they’ve distanced themselves from (and possibly regret), is the height of pettiness.
