one of the things that won me over to the metric system is the fact that one m³ of water contains 1,000 liters and weighs 1,000 kg.

so if your rain meter told us that you got 1.6” (call it 40mm) then you know that you got 40 liters of water per square meter.

Where I work (jewelry mfg) it is a hilarious mix of measures. In the casting room, the burnout kilns are Fahrenheit. However, the casting machines are metric. We have grams, but our Troy oz ounce gets 31.1 of them. And the “Dwts’” unrelated to dancing with anyone.
