Desert, if you dig Sonic Youth: Have you ever heard of Bedhead or their later incarnation, The New Year? They don’t really sound like Sonic Youth at all but Thurston was a real champion of them during the 90s.

disclosure: the Kadane brothers in Bedhead/The New Year are good friends from my hometown.
