‘Tea party’ goes back to school on Fourth of July

‘An understanding of the Constitution can lead to electing people who will uphold it’

SNIP

I haven’t finished the article, so I’m not going to make any wisecracks yet. Unlike most times, this ‘Tea Party’ idea is in-and-of-itself a sound one.

The problem is that they’ve adopted an originalist interpretation of the Constitution. They can read it all day long but they can’t interpret it in a real world way. There are no “originalists” on the Supreme Court and there probably never has been. It’s a quack philosophy.
The Tea Parties are also very interested in history but they are using Glenn Beck’s Birch Society revised history. They are on a completely different planet.
I’m also seeing a lot of talk for conservatives these days that Keynesian economics has failed and is now dead. That’s like claiming gravity no longer applies. It’s insanity.

The Tea Parties are a quack movement of conspiracies and bad ideas. Like the LaRouche crowd or the Birch society they may survive but they will never develop worthwhile practical ideas that will work in the real world.
