I firmly believe it’s worth doing. It’d be a huge boon to me personally, because writing doesn’t come with an employer providing health insurance and mr. klys is going to retire someday. But if we fuck it up, there are huge consequences and I wish I had a sense that people were more aware of that. A lot of the people I see being very rah rah about it are the same group that unequivocally embraced Bernie in the primary or fall into the leftist sphere. I don’t get a sense that there’s a lot of reality behind it.

I’m too pragmatic to let reality go.

The California Senate passed the bill but left out the funding mechanism. Heck, I am willing to pay 2-3% more State Income Tax because that is lower than the 7.9% of my paycheck that currently goes to Kaiser and the 1.55% Federal Medicare Tax. They got to make the funding right and then smooth the transition.

Before Medicare was enacted in California, the State had “Western 65” health coverage for Senior Citizens. Then Governor Pat Brown and the State Legislature made sure that there was a smooth transition for Californians from Western 65 to Medicare.

Once again, Bernie doesn’t put his brain in gear before shooting his mouth off at Jerry Brown. Jerry knows how his Father busted his ass to make sure nobody was lost or left out during the Medicare/Medicaid transition.
