Also, amount of on-line donations is traceable. Amount on the plate is just the amount the person afterwards says it is - if they ever report the total.

If the money goes to the church or its functions only, that is not a problem, as churches are not required to report income and expenses on an IRS Form 990. (Some churches do, but many don’t.)

It does make it much harder to see who is skimming from the collection plate beyond what salary a church might pay to its employees.
