Could easily be a former employee, maybe someone who got laid off or fired, and now has an axe to grind against AT&T.

A personal gripe against AT&T? Have to say that would not be surprising at all — from either employees or customers. But taking such an extreme action is definitely out of the ordinary but it would not be shocking to learn of that type of motivation.
