I don’t agree that socialism is a ‘liberal’ position.

Socialism has many definitions, but I prefer the socialism light.

Socialism refers to the various theories of economic organization advocating either public or direct worker ownership and administration of the means of production and allocation of resources.

I also don’t agree that insurance is a form of socialism.

Insurance spreads risk over a group. We’ll agree on that. How you provide that insurance is up to you. For what it’s worth, Blue Cross refers to their policy holders as members. So does AAA. Whether you have a Grangers Hall or a Group Medical Plan or MediCal is a difference in degree but not in kind.
