Indeed. I favor immigration reform and enforcing the border, but I have no problem with immigration as a whole. I just want them to come here legally, and I think we should be more selective in to this country. But when the movement gets tainted with racists, it ruins the issue for the rest of us.

Yes, exactly. Because it enables the opponent to tag you with the brush of an extremist. It is a pretty neat trick really. Calling someone a racist works the same way. We saw this during the election. Very unfair and dishonest but very effective in silencing discussion.
