I haven’t done that yet, but I think about all the time.

My worry is I’m going to be in Philly when this happens. They just lost a civil case where a cop beat the shit of a guy taking pictures of an Occupy movement, breaking his camera and all the trimmings.

They know you’re allowed to film them. They also know that the immediate damage and pain they can inflict, and the lack of the punishment they’ll eventually face, is worth taking the gamble.

Part of the reason it depresses me is that this is the wild north country. As far as red state-blue state goes, Minnesota is one of the bluest, with many progressive reforms and social programs. If any place should be free from the scourge of racist cops beating and killing black people, it should be here. But this incident occurred immediately after Ferguson, and not long before, I had posted about Minneapolis police savagely beating a black community activist. I had to acknowledge to myself that there was a non-zero chance that an incident was about to occur on the busy downtown streets of the state’s capital city.
