of course … your point is entirely accurate. which is why if he is NOT Jewish, that needs to be pointed out frequently to counter what could be some sort of blood libel. That said … he could be an atheist for all we know. But you are correct that “Israeli equals Jew” in many places.

Take his religion and nationality out of it altogether. “Stabber captured trying to leave country”…it doesn’t matter where he was going (unless it was Pakistan/Saudi Arabia/etc…then it’d be “terrorist caught fleeing country”)…call him what he is, a criminal, and leave it at that. Then you won’t have to worry so much about Israel or Judaism being equated with the actions of one person…not that I think this one person’s actions are enough to make that a big deal anyway.
