If Erdogan is as modern as he says he is, he will allow for the protests. If he wasn’t such a corrupt twatwaffle, this wouldn’t have happened in the first place. He was essentially selling off a park to developers who helped him and his party.

On 16 September 2011, the assembly of the Beyoğlu Municipality enacted to rebuild the structure; although the area falls within the purview of green space protection ordinances, development interests are exploiting statutes protecting historic structures in order to subjugate those protections; the rebuilt barracks is intended to be a shopping center. As of the time of the decision, no surviving portion of the barracks exist on site.

People should not subordinate themselves to other nations. Norway had the right idea. They may be close allies with Turkey, but they also were doing broadcasts into the country detailing the protests. In essence, I believe we should be Scandinavian on this. Allies with nations, but quite willing to call them on bullshit. The US should try to be more like Scandinavia.
