re: #118 Absalom, Absalom, Obdicut

Okay. Well, I don’t think that most people are going to eventually disbelieve in love, either, so I think we fundamentally disagree.

But even leaving aside love, do you understand the bit about scientific innovation and religious innovation being rather similar?

No, because I think that in order to “believe” you must suspend rational thinking. Imagination has many sources, not the least of which is influence from the knowledge one already possesses and the willingness to go beyond it. I just don’t think “faith” has that capability because it just doubles back on itself in order to survive.

And I think you totally misunderstand my statement about “love”. All you have to do is look at people’s relationships to understand what I’m saying. The Weiner/Abedin situation is one prime example. Weiner, in spite of the outcome, could not control his impulses (behavior) and showed a great deal of disrespect and a non-caring attitude toward his wife, his child, and didn’t care about the consequences. No amount of “therapy” is going to cure that aspect, and “saving” the marriage won’t, either. Abedin can’t carry the burden of caring and respect by herself and expect this relationship to last.
