Because I’m hoping people will click through to see what I was replying to: A Guardian article of such superlative anti-Americanism that it can be honestly said to be Fox News-level biased.

Well, it’s a good example. There is a real problem: The US has an insanely high rate of gun deaths compared to other first-world nations. The hyperbole then is ladled on top of it by the Guardian, calling it a ‘civil war’, which is dumb as shit.

Moreover, you’re attacking an opinion piece for being an opinion piece. It is a bad opinion piece, but it is being presented as opinion, not as fact. Fox News’s biggest problem (and this is found in plenty of Guardian reporting to, but not by this article) is that it represents opinion as fact.

The media as a whole, in fact, is in retreat from facts, with most of the media unwilling to label direct lies from the GOP as lies, instead presenting it as one perspective. Fox News is an egregious example of politicization of the news, but the other media sources, while less politicized, arrive at much the same destination.

Like Greenwald’s uncritical portrayal of Oathkeepers, the mainstream media’s portrayal of GOP positions that have no connection with reality makes them basically untrustable as source. Even on the subject of global warming, which is an incredibly well-established physical fact, as contentious as the idea of plate tectonics, the GOP lies about global warming not occurring, not being a consequence of man’s activities, or being somehow beneficial are reported without the notation that these are obscenely stupid lies.
