As I understand, HFCS is more like fructose, which both metabolize faster than sucrose, being simpler sugars. So, your system gets a bigger influx of carbohydrates with each drink or meal. And, if you check your food labels, HFCS is in practically everything, even foods that are not sweets, so you’re getting a constant infusion of sugar into your system.
Portion sizes play a part in that as well. My ex-wife commented that a small hamburger at an American McD’s was the equivalent of a Junior Big Mac in the Czech Republic.
