Overreactionism at its finest. Tell me, what good would installing countermeasures on US aircraft have done in this case? Oh that’s right, ABSOLUTELY ZERO BECAUSE THIS WAS NOT A US AIRCRAFT. Derp.
Plus who pays for it. Airlines don’t want to - it takes up weight and maintenance time and reduces their profit margins further. So it would be a federal subsidy, further passenger fees, or something like that. And that’s assuming you find a worthwhile defense system that can handle a SAM system designed to shoot down cruise missiles and military attack aircraft.
So it boils down to emotional blathering in the heat of the moment.
