I’m still sort of amazed that the big record companies still exist in the ways that they do. Given the technology available and that music has (mostly) gone digital, it’s fairly easy to self produce. The only thing that labels seem to have going for them at this point is that they still seem to control access to radio play lists.

Self-marketing may also have gone digital, but the large reach of established companies is tough to compete with. No matter how good the product is, it’s forced to compete in the marketplace if somebody wants to make a living at it.
