As the story says, he refused to go to the hospital and took the usual pile of useless crap. So, like a whole bunch of others, he got to the hospital only when he was too sick to resist, therefore was way more likely to tie up ICU resources and die, and had the opportunity to infect more of the people around him.

Just guess which are the states with the highest percentages of uninsured people. How many health providers are going to go bankrupt? You going to get half a million dollars plus for an extended ICU visit out of some random family where one or the only breadwinner just died?
