I actually got an offer. The pay is good, but I’m not sure I can do the work well, given my narcolepsy problem (it turned out to be a call center job). So I’m talking things over with some people to see if this job is one I should take.

That’s great news. As far as the narcolepsy goes, you could always take up methamphetamine. You only have to worry about blowing a hole in your aorta the first few times you do it…then you figure out how much your body can handle…for a while.

Seriously, if the hours suck, it’s not the job for you. Call center sounds kind of entry-level anyway. You’ve been in the working world for a good decade now. Apply UP…don’t go for lateral positions. Or sell yourself as a “senior” level sales-critter. Get team lead for two or three years, then move into a management role…that’s where you’ll be happiest.

And don’t start taking meth. Sure, you’ll be good for four or five days, but then you’ll fall asleep in the middle of the freeway, and trust me, that’s not good.
