I was surprised to see Chait in there trying to rehabilitate Hunter too.

Maybe he’ll figure this thing out before embarrassing himself further. The title of his piece indicates he doesn’t grasp it yet: Racists Love Ron and Rand Paul for Some Reason. In it, he goes part way there:

Now, obviously, you can like Ron and Rand Paul without being the slightest bit racist. Very, very few Rand Paul fans are glad Abraham Lincoln was shot. At the same time, the logic of southern white supremacy and the logic of libertarianism run along very similar lines. They both express themselves in terms of opposition to federal power and support for states’ rights.

If he keeps digging that hole, eventually he’ll find more similarities, like needing to lie about reality to maintain that ideology.
