I love the look I get from cashiers when I give them odd payment amounts. Initial sort of “crap - why are you handing me change in addition to the $20?”. And it is obviously not exact change for the amount as well. So they punch it into the cash register and it comes back as something like a $5 and three quarters. And then I get the look like I pulled off some sort of wizardry, sometimes mixed with the “you’re some kind of smartass, aren’t you?” expression.

As in giving them extra payment in pennies, just to get them out of my pocket.

China has “pennies” but no one bothers with them. Odd amounts are rounded up or down to the nearest “dime” — the jiao, 1/10th of a yuan — because who cares about piddly amounts?
