Nope. They have signs. People collect them illegally all the time. A live clam is way heavier than an empty seashell, and not something you want to take home and rot quietly on a shelf. And who digs in the sand to find seashells?

aha, yes, I would never think of collecting a live clam unless it was for a clambake.
