Weak jobs report deepens U.S. economic concerns

A weak jobs report Friday raised questions about the vigor of the economic recovery, increasing speculation the Federal Reserve will take further steps to bolster growth and casting doubts about President Obama’s handling of the economy among voters, who consider it the No. 1 issue.

The nation’s employers added 69,000 jobs in May, the fewest in a year and well below the 150,000 economists had expected. The national unemployment rate rose to 8.2 percent from 8.1 percent. In addition, federal labor officials slashed their earlier estimate of jobs created in April to 77,000 from 115,000.
