I am neither an economist nor a demographer, and I don’t know that I’d be able to dissect the numbers to any benefit. I do know that your analysis makes me (instinctively) uncomfortable, as it seems to discount my efforts and those of a lot of other people I know to claw our way from really, miserably poor circumstances to something I’d call middle-class.

It’s not about class as such (though I suppose it could be).

Now and then, some startup does share some large part of profits with the staff, and it makes news.

My own father’s little company was not overly generous with the profit sharing, though the numbers were never big enough to worry much about.

And it should make you uncomfortable … though I’m not entirely certain in what sense you meant that.

But when the chairman of Disney or Exxon or NYSE takes home nine figure salaries for the year, I see red - literally and figuratively.
