Obama was talking about the overall situation much like Bremer and Rice. American troops were already dying in Iraq when Bremer made his comment. Where was the outrage from the right then?

As I remember it, and my memory is admittedly spotty at times, there was a lot of outrage at the time, but it was aimed towards the idea that dead troops were “bumps in the road” when Bremer used the phrase. The idea being that the Bush Administration was taking a rather crass view of troops dying in pursuit of a less-than-worthwhile goal.
