Someone, please tell me if this isn’t malpractice. I learned that a friend of mine was given metformin, 500 mg 2x a day. She’s been complaining of feeling queasy since she started taking it last week, so I asked her if she was testing her blood sugar. No, she doesn’t have a meter. She wasn’t even told she NEEDED a meter. I threw a bloody hissy fit about how she needed to have a meter and log her blood sugar so she can keep track of what it’s doing. For all we know, she may be knocking her blood sugar into the 70s or worse when she takes metformin. The doctor apparently explained NOTHING to her.

Metformin had me puking within a day and I stopped taking it and complained to my VA doc. They changed it to something else which has now been changed to something else entirely but I have no love for Metformin.
