I concur that for FDR and JFK (among others) that various aliments were hidden. And also that various photo ops have been generated so that the Chief Exec can show his physical skills.

My response was that Teddy’s default mode was virile physicality.

I presume for Taft they would show him at the beach, I expect he was an expert floater.

Something I doubt you’ll ever see again in high government was the agreement (unwritten?) about keeping the degree of FDR’s debilitation hidden from general public view.
