So here’s a dumb question. When they build these wells, why don’t they build a containment “field” around them as part a safety precaution?

I’ve heard (out of the corner of my ear) that there is precautionary thing-a-ma-jigger (sorry, if I’m getting too technical) they can use to cap the well when something like that happens. Costs about a half a mil to have it set up.

That’s (I’m guessing) why it is not there. Follow the money.
