I don’t get it. The two positions should be counter-intuitive. Rugged individualists should think that Romney was privileged so much from the outset he can’t really be the right guy for leadership, since he’s not a rugged individualist.

Its because it’s a lie. It’s not about rugged individualism, it’s about dodging responsibility— responsibility towards your country, your fellow citizens, responsibility not to pollute the common environment, to pick up after yourself, etc. Most things that the GOP is against are responsible things.

Rugged individudualism based on the nuclear family. Which, the way it is progressing, will lead us back to Feudalism within a few generations…
