re: #115 electrotek

Oh man, I think I may be in for a surprise medical bill from my hospital visit last month. I checked my Cigna claims and to my surprise thereā€™s a claim for an anesthesiologist that was evidently ā€œout-of-networkā€. But hereā€™s the kicker: NO ONE disclosed to me at the time of the visit that it would be out of network.

Iā€™m bracing for the bill since it will be in the fucking thousands, for something that is clearly not my fault at all.

Has anyone else gone through this before?

Thatā€™s a situation thatā€™s all too common. People sometimes have no control over who their doctors treating them and whether theyā€™re in/out of network. That goes for anesthesiologists as well as ER visits, where the hospital might be in network, but ER services are provided by a practice group that is separate from the hospital and therefore could be out of network. NJ was trying to get a law to clarify that so that those kinds of charges arenā€™t hidden.
