Ancestry retains ownership of the dna test results. I use the site for genealogy research. Every time I get a begging email telling me the wonders of their dna tests - I write back and tell them I prefer to retain the right to my heritage. I also don’t put my family tree online. I’ve found relatives in many countries of the world without the need for dna or having my family details online.

I pay them to use their site. I don’t pay for them to own my personal details.
