Personally I’m not big on symbolism myself. I don’t choose my neighbors and I don’t particularly care if they’re patriotic or what they think about me. I smile and wave and if they don’t annoy me too much we don’t have a problem.

It’s not about the symbolism, per se. It’s about what is being symbolized, i.e. shallow patriotism as a facade for celebrity worship. If I need a favor, I’d probably do well to look elsewhere besides these folks, because they’ve pretty much proven themselves unprincipled, starry-eyed boobs incapable of understanding self-sacrifice.
