Alexander McCall Smith’s “The No. 1 Ladies’ Detective Agency” books are also an interesting piece of “mind candy” (as my brother refers to light fiction books or movies.) Set of detective novels set in Botswana with an interesting set of characters and not your normal sort of crime novel.

I read the first 4-5 as my SIL was reading them and then passing them on. I countered by giving her the various Kitty Norville werewolf novels by Carrie Vaughn as I finished reading them. ;)

Did you ever see the series based on the books? Filmed entirely on location in Botswana, and the pilot TV-movie was directed by Anthony Minghella.
