The GOP did seem somewhat sane in the ‘80’s tho.

They were, at least relative to what we’re seeing now.

But the 80s was also sort of the beginning of a lot of this nonsense we’re seeing now; granted it goes back further, back to the John Birch Society, and even long before that. There’s always been a reactionary strain in American society and culture.
