It takes about a month to settle out. Are you on it permanently or is it a swing shift? If the former, you can adjust and it’s a good gig. I like my permanent, 40 hours a week, 11 to 7 shift. But if it were a swing shift? Nope. I’d have quit a very long time ago as that is torture to the body and the brain - and made worse by us doing it to ourselves.

It’s a rather screwed up situation at the moment. Between the shortage in staff and the holidays, the FNG (i.e. me) is catching the shifts that nobody else wants to work. I’m one of only three guys who’s trained to handle graveyard at the hotel, one has a second job which means he can’t work Mondays, and the third decided he was taking the entire week off. Thankfully I have tomorrow off, and the only other day I work graveyard this week is Thanksgiving.
