Making threats? Whatever, Walter.

The modern computer comes hugely from Turing’s work. My ‘mystical’, and obviously impossible ‘punishment’ is not meant as a ‘threat’— which is an absurdly dramatic interpretation— but as a thought exercise to get people to think about how much homosexuals have contributed to our culture.

Oh, and Liebnitz never wrote out the math for true Turing machines. He had the idea, but he never got there completely. He was awesome, though.

The fact that he was gay has nothing to do with what he created, and there was almost 400 years of computational concepts and actual machines. Turing was a big part of the recent puzzle, but not the only part, and even if he didn’t even exist, there were many other people who could have stepped into the place he held.

Like I say, it cheapens gay right if you make this punitive statement “I do wish that everyone who was such a bigot towards gays (and any other group) had a simple, mystical penalty: not being able to enjoy a single thing produced by that group.”
