No matter what the original patent says, as a practical matter, it doesn’t really matter which way you hang your toilet paper. It’s like arguing over exactly how well or rare you prefer to have your steak or what sauce(s) you put on it. It is utterly insignificant.

However, if you have cats who like to bat the toilet paper roll and make it spin, enrolling the paper onto the floor, putting the paper on the “wrong” way is more useful in preserving your supply.
