John Wayne played Sherman in John Ford’s Civil War segment of How The West Was Won, though he looked nothing like him and, as usual, he was playing “John Wayne.” Not a bad performance, come to think of it, maybe because he was directed by John Ford.

Extra bit o’ trivia: The voice of Sherman in Ken Burns’ documentary The Civil War was that of playwright Arthur Miller.

Wayne also played Ghengis Khan. I think I’ll pass on that one.

On other comments, I’ve grown more on Grant. He was a complicated human. And I think that rounds us back to the conversations from earlier today. :)
